Darn you to heck (or another 3 hours stranded on a NJ Transit train) but you had to write a charming post and make me subscribe to one more fecking newsletter. I HAVE OTHER THINGS TO DO
You are so valuable to cartooning (as Mort Gerberg suggests at the end). This piece has sooo much, great stuff -- from your wonderful drawings and humor to your tributes to others and your concern about this work, which is much more important than most people realize.
I was very encouraged watching/listening to this Adam Conover show, which basically says that the AI fad will die soon, because it’s expensive, unweildly, and none of the companies pushing it have made a dime off of it yet.
Thats the catch, if we need reference Ai already has scraped every jpeg in history. Why dont it just shows me the images it used instead of a jumbled mess. And when we mention it keeps getting better, its still doing the same, using lots of resources instead of a simple googlefu. Look what Ai did! All it needed was a building full of computers to give me this exact replica of something an apple eating hominid did 300 years ago.
Anyways, theres a great reason why instead of having a printer with a camera spitting caricatures, they bring out the wonderful Jason.

Your NJ travel experience made me fondly recall the time I lived in New Jersey, and also the dread I felt whenever I had to travel around New Jersey. Thanks!
As for AI, don't worry. Civilization will collapse soon enough and then cave painting will once again be all the rage. I've been prepping by finessing my stick figures with spears caricatures.

Very pleased to be robbing you of your attention. I hope it's worthy! 😁

Thank you, James!
