#408: New Yorker Festival This Weekend, Picture This Halloween Special, Yonkers Sketchbook & More!
+ Dangerfields and Morris gets his Guard Dog Face on.
Welcome to Issue #408 of New York Cartoons
As we inexorably zoom around the final chicane towards the impending civil war election, I’m feeling very uneasy about what the rest of the year looks like. It hasn’t been a good one.
I’m glad New York Comic Con is over, and the heaving tsunami of cosplayers and pop culture fans has receded. My neighbourhood is right by the location of the event, so I’m inundated by the attendees more than most New Yorkers. This is the first time in 10 years I haven’t attended either San Diego or New York Comic-Con, and if I’m totally honest with you, I’m surprised by how much relief I feel. I just needed a break from it all. I’ll be back next year— everyone who comes out to say hello is always a welcome face in a sea of insanity— and I have two exciting new things to share that I’ve been working on over here: Not one, but two new books for 2025. I’m finally coming up for air, having sent off the final print files yesterday. Thank you for being patient with me while I’ve been buried in deadline hell.
This week, I’m sharing the details of my first appearance at the New Yorker Festival, which takes place this weekend. I think you can still get tickets to some of the events, but honestly, I have no idea how the ticket release rounds work; I’m just going to post links and hope for the best.
I’m also sharing my drawings from Yonkers, and recollections of my time at Dangerfields (Now “Rodney’s”) Comedy Club. I’m hosting the show (as well as drawing) at Picture This! on Halloween, and the show is free for this month only! Details on that below.

Picture This! is back for another month of scribbly comedy nut-baggery.
This month is the annual “Animation Block Party” special event for Picture This— and it happens to coincide with Halloween! It’ll be a fun show— I’ll be both hosting and drawing, so…
If you didn’t catch
at New York Comic-Con this past week, you can check out his fantastic Substack, —and bid on the original art for his weekly hand-made sketches. Tom has a new book out, packed to the gills with movie parodies that MAD never covered, called “Claptrap!” which you can order here. This week’s Sketchbook is from a live caricaturing gig I did in Yonkers on Saturday with a couple of cartoonist friends. If you’d like to book me for your holiday event, click here.
Hey Pal! Thanks for the shout out!
Do you sleep? I made the mistake of reading this in my Gmail and nearly missed Morris! Molly says hello back. I would tell you what she really says, but your newsletter comments aren’t R rated.
